Lots to catch up on...

It's been awhile since I've posted anything and I have got a lot of catching up to do..... So for anyone who doesn't already know, Marc and I are expecting!!! Our baby is due January 15, 2012.

This is our little "gummy bear" at about 8 weeks. If you look close you can see 1 body, 1 head, 2 arms, & 2 legs...(look really close)

When I was about 10 weeks pregnant I felt some bumps on the back of my head. I thought that what I was feeling was acne breakouts. After a few days when they weren't going away, but were instead increasing in number I realized that something strange was going on. These spots itched, burned, and they just plain old hurt. It hurt to brush & blow dry my hair, and it even hurt to lay on my pillow. And I also noticed they were only on the right side of my head. Since I could not see the back of my head I had Marc take a picture for me...(warning the next couple pictures are a little disturbing)

When both my mom and I could not figure out what we were seeing in this picture I decided to call the doctor. I was a little concerned, and being pregnant I couldn't just take pain meds or benadryl to help. When I got to the doctor I learned that the spots on the back of my head were indeed NOT acne. No, no, that would be too simple. The spots were actually an outbreak of shingles on the back of my head. For those who don't know, shingles is part of the chicken pox virus. When someone has the chicken pox the virus stays in your system inactive. Sometimes for whatever reason the virus can become active again, when this happens it comes back as Shingles. A nasty rash consisting of little blisters concentrated to one spot on one side of your body (usually on one's trunk or buttocks- in my case the right side of my head) Normally this happens in the elderly, or newborn babies. I know I don't fit either of those categories. I'm strange what can I say.

The next 2 pictures are as the disease progressed into blisters, and eventually scabs...(gross I know)

The doctor thinks this was probably due to stress (I should probably figure out how to handle stress...) He prescribed me an antiviral and basically said "good luck!" Talk about painful! Ice packs were my best friend, I'd actually strap them to my head to keep my arm from falling asleep. I am glad to say I am officially all healed and over this Shingles outbreak :)

Anyway, we ended up having another ultrasound this weekend, at 15 weeks 5 days...While we were there we asked the technician if we could maybe get a gender peek a little early. Our little baby was rolling, squirming, hiccuping, and kicking all over the place. Our technician was really enjoying herself, we were too- It was so much fun watching our baby move around like that. I can't wait til I can feel the movement. The tech was able to get a gender peek for us, granted its a little early to know for sure, but...

Sure looks like a boy to us!!!

Here's a few of the other ultrasound pictures we got. He waved to us right from the get go.
